About Us and Some Art

The Ugly Pug began in 2008, but it was a concept that I had dreamed about for a very long time and it finally became a reality.

I came to Peterborough in the early 80s. My dad is an engineer, so we travelled extensively when I was a child and settled in Peterborough where I went to high school at Edmison Heights and Adam Scott. Growing up, I really wanted to be a veterinarian but didn’t have the drive for the work involved, so I went into advertising in college (big mistake). I worked in retail for a number of years and went back to school to be an accountant. During that time I became a speaker for Sir Sandford Fleming and enjoyed working in their Registrar’s office for a few years.

Deciding I needed a change, I moved to Calgary and met a master groomer and her husband, a former canine cop, where I learned grooming and training techniques. This is where I found my passion and never stopped. I have done it ever since.

I had to pay my dues like every other trainer and work for veterinarians for many years. This gave me the information that I needed to run a successful business. I wanted the Ugly Pug to be a one-stop shopping kind of facility and we are getting there.

Now we have added Dog Portraits in Oil

So, we’ve been having some great fun over the last year learning how to paint; Thanks to the Art School of Peterborough. If you need your puppy painted let us know and we will see what we can come up with.
